Parked at the sculptured stones car park and walked via the old church easy enough trek up albeit having to go through fields with cows and sheep not the best with having Rocco - however we managed it safely - fab views from the top and a fab cairn as well.

Very kind, friendly resident allowed me to park in his yard NO 514547 - he appreciated me asking and not just abandoning my car on his mown grass verge just outside his entrance. To avoid electric fences - into field (turn right) at NO 5125 5413 and follow wood edge to spot height 216 and gate. Easy climb to top with stiles as mentioned.

Marilyn no.7. An early start from the lay-by on the B9134 just west of Aberlemno. Fortunately, little traffic at this time of the morning as there`s no verge on the stretch leading to the junction heading to the Back of Turin Hill. The unclassified road here quickly ends and turns into a track passing Turin Hill Farm where the track eventually fizzles out at March Wood and the going became muddy until clear of the wood. After that it was a short, easy route on drier grass to the summit heading east. Trig point with memorial cairn on other side of dyke. Views were extensive, taking in most of Angus along with coast and mountains.

Trig, looking to cairn with Sidlaw Hills beyond.
2 grahams, Mount Blair (left) and Catlaw.
Memorial cairn.

Decided not to go via the SE route and risk the wrath of the farmer ( allegedly according to WalkHighlands TRs) but approached from the North and a very nice resident at Fordmouth kindly let me park on his grass verge. Then I went straight up through the woods to avoid the coos on either side ( rather skittery). Lots of windblown trees, nettles and getting over barbed wire and electric fences meant I made heavy weather but once beyond this was rewarded with a lovely walk to the summit TP (with spider intact) then over the wall to the cairn. I even caught a sight of an osprey which was a surprise.

Visited s4480 during a walk from Aberlemno to Turin Hill. As I approached the summit a great mist descended covering the hill and blotting out all views for ten minutes or so. Signs nearby of Iron Age Fort embankments; also a more 'recent' mediaeval area as signified by a roughly circular wall. Also close by is a cairn erected in 1943 in honour of a local soldier. The cairn contained a rusty 'Excalibur'. On way back down had a hair-raising experience outrunning two young frisky black bulls.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed 26th April 1948 £8.13s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NO42/16 within the Dundee block during 1948. Levelled for height in 1956. Last maintained by the OS in June 1986. SITE VISIT: Trig pillar in good condition. Spider retains stamped font OS centre plug. Flush bracket faces north. A wooden ladder, similar to those seen on English and Welsh right of way has been constructed over the nearby boundary wall. This is something we could do with a lot more north of the border.
