On a round of 8 hills in the Ochills starting with The Nebit and finishing with The Law. Pillar sits within a shelter cairn. Centre cap missing, a composite disc seals the tube. RHD side sight hole sealed, other 3 open. No views today as cloud down on the hill.

A day (unintentionally) of Toposcopes, we did 2 pillars today and both had view-finders by the pillar - while Ben Cleugh was indicted by the one we did later at the Hill of Alyth the Hill of Alyth wasn't (not unsurprisingly) indicated by the one here! This was supposed to be a ‘Warm up’ for a special day tomorrow…but I found this to be (on a v hot day) an absolute brute! Clearly not as fit as I figured I was! Tremendous views, esp S of the Bridges over the twisting River Forth. Storm’s first TP N of the river, a good one to start with!

Stunning weather conditions all day, and really great walking along the range of hills to here from Dollar Glen. Fantastic views to the Southern Highlands, and it was a great experience to be back in the high Scottish hills again for the first time since the 2020 lockdown.

Started and finished in Tillicoultry. The bottom of the glen path was still closed since a rockfall last December which was a shame, but workmen were on site undertaking repairs and the diversion was decent. Very steep to start with but worth it as the views were decent as was the weather.

Good condition pillar atop Ben Cleugh sitting within a low shelter cairn. Carcass of old trig forms part of the cairn wall now. FB faces SE-ish with all sightholes except NE-ish open. Blocked internally. Cap missing but plastic plug present. Steep pull up from Tillicoultry via the Law with expansive, but hazy, views. Returned via Ben Ever, the Nebit and Silver Glen.

Nice warm May Friday and perfect for a picnic lunch on top of the Ochils. These are my local hills which I have viewed most days of my life and walked countless times. Today's route was up via Ben Ever returning to Tillicoultry by Andrew Gannel hill. Slightly hazy today making views a little less spectacular than can be.

Parked in Tillicoultry and did a small circular up very steeply onto The Law, onto Ben Cleuch, then along to Andrew Gannel Hill and Kings Seat Hill, back down to Tillicoultry, clear sunny and very hot weather, bagged Ben Lomond earlier that day, so quite exhausted by the end!

Top notch views in all directions, with a handy (but in poor condition) viewfinder nearby. According to that guide I could see for over 60 miles to the north and southwest and make out bass Rock to the east. Not bad at all!

Cloud down, no view. Horrendous winds, shelter appreciated today. Carcase of old trig still there. The original pillar would have been built in 1936, but must have been rebuilt since. The original FB, S1605 was reused in the rebuild. Pillar sporting a GPS plate is in good condition. Spider has a grey plastic plug. RHS sighting hole plugged, others open. FB faces SE.

Walked up from Alva Car Park through the Silver Glen. Only stayed on summit long enough to get my picture. Returned to car park over Wood Hill, to make a nice circular route.

Drove almost solid up from Rhayader with this in mind sacrificing a big score this time to get the height. 28degC at the foothills is not a good idea though and a long hot climb ensued. Great circuit possible using Alva and Tilliicoultry as the access points and in many ways the descent reminded me of the East side of the Long Mynd.

Top in thick clag. I gave the high score because I have since returned on a clear day and the views were really good. Up with Peachy73. Steep slog up The Law. Trig surrounded by a circular wind shelter cairn, there is also a viewfinder at the summit which on a clear day picks out Ben MacDhui. The OS maps mark this hill as Ben Cluech not Cluegh.
