Parked in layby to the east just beyond the junction. Walked round to the front of Carngillan Cottages and through the gate in the corner of the field. Sheep making a fair racket and bunched up in the far corner so I kept to the field edge. Returned crossing 2 fences direct to the car, there were gates but fences not in the best nick so easy crossing.

Log #429. Parked in layby to east, walked south to gate and followed boundaries to the pillar. Easy peasy. More spalling to pillar - what sort of crap concrete did they use down here in Ayr? [ExP-297/MiP-35/Rev-6/BM-29/IS-43/Other-19]

Slightly damaged pillar in generally good nick except for lumps missing from the top screed exposing the spider, although the spider itself is undamaged. FB faces south-ish with only the north-ish sighthole open. Cap is present with sunken lettering. Views north a bit hemmed in by the hedgerow, but south views are quite decent. Raith Hill is clearly visible (look for the trees!). Also views to Brown Carrick, Mochrum Hill, Craigs of Kyle. Easy bag. There's a layby directly to the east and only two fences need jumped!

West Carngillan....what a difference a season makes! ...following on from SlainteJimmy\'s comment...

What a difference a season makes.. currently in a field of luscious knee-length grass and encroached by hawthorns from above and behind and nettles around the base. The cracky top has the spider exposed and only the North sight is open.
