Convenient car park nearby. Not what I was expecting to find. Didn’t check here beforehand so after visiting this spot carried on looking for a typical pillar. Walked up to the site of where Weardale Manor once stood. There was another monument near there. Continued walking around and finally checked in here to discover I had already found the trig point, classed as ‘other’, although it is shown on the OS map by the usual symbol. Interesting dedication on the side of the topographic point. Has the usual spider on top. No views now as trees grown up all around. Not far away are some good views.

Toy’s Hill East face showing dedication.

Grand. Followed orange walk a short way to it then came back to car park and followed red route then public right of way to Ide Hill. Would be great to out this on a high platform so you could see the 360 view. Really lovely spot.

Now enclosed by woodland, so no rays visible. Nevertheless, the most interesting Trig Point I've ever stumbled across. It's on Toys Hill, a NT countryside property near Chartwell in Kent, where I volunteer.

Well this one took me completely by surprise. I had only found it on my O/S and hadn't looked at it on the site previously. The Trig appeared to me on the footpath as something that would not look out of place on the exterior steps of a stately home. It is in very good condition with a very large metal plate on top lined up to the points of the compass and pointing out direction points and distances. The centre cap gives some Ordnance Survey information dated 1939 with long/lat. references and clearly stating that it is a Triangulation Station. There is however no Flush Bracket or number. Now a little tip here this information plate is very faintly etched but I discovered that by emptying my water bottle over it brings up the info nice and clearly. As for the views that it states you should see - well you can't , not unless someone comes along and does some major deforestation work. Take care on the footpaths that you don't get knocked down by very enthusiastic mountain bikers or put your feet in dog faeces as they clearly visit in large numbers on both counts.

I used to come with my family as a boy, back in the 60's & 70's, I remember this site well. The whole area has changed quite a lot following the bashing it received from the 1987 "Hurrican" Pillar is in good condition, and apart from the OS Information in the centre, there would be no reason to think it anything other than a nice monument. No views due to tree cover.

I spent 30 mins looking for the trig marked on LR188, not realising that it was a possible map error. This toposcope is the only thing I could find. Plaque thereon says this original piece of land was given to the National Trust in 1935, but no clues as to when the topo was built. The centre boss does however bear the logo O.. S.. Triangulation Station 1939. Comment awaited from OS...

This one is something of a mystery, and I have really added it to the Trigpoint database in order to try and provoke some answers. I discovered it whilst looking at a copy of Landranger 187. I was surprised to find it, as I knew there was no such entry in the Trigpoint database. I soon found out that the symbol appeared on most maps I had access to including all Landranger 187 editions.
