Parked in Glenariff Forest Park but should have parked on roadside to south of pillar as this would have been easier. Bit of a slog through forest and then boggy ground to summit but pillar found easily enough. 360 views in all directions. Pillar has slight damage.

4 mile out-and-back trip from B road south along nearly non-existent Moyle Way then following fence to moonscape summit, very cloudy but top was clear allowing great views towards Kintyre and Arran in Scotland. Drove to and bagged Slemish later on that day.

Elevation: 561 metres. Trig point in fair condition but very worn on 3 sides. Lots of minor bump damage to the sides and top. Spider is in place but the screw-cap is missing. All strap-down fixings are in place. No lichen but a fair bit of moss on the sides and top. Pillar sits on top of an earthed in stone mound. Surrounding the mound is an almost lunar landscape with virtually no soil for about 100 metres radius. Good views all around when the clouds gave me the chance. Could see Tievebulliagh, Crockalough, Collin Top, Dungonnell Dam reservoir/lough and Slievenanee.

Actual Irish Grid logged on GPSr (5m accuracy) is D17960 23597 I get several different answers when converting to OSBG36 ref. I have used the one closest to the original record but it is still 92m out.

Mull of Kintyre Although spoilt by haze you can see for miles! It looks very close. The village nestling in the bay is Cushendun 12km away. Mull of Kintyre is 36km. and the mountains in the background to the right, are the Isle of Arran at 80km.©Preacher

Pleasing view of Antrim coast. Next day the Total Eclipse of Sun was seen from Giant's Causeway (only 95% from there).
