Cloudless blue sky so a fantastic 360 deg viewpoint. Quick walk up to the South Cairn from the upper car park; decided to walk onwards to the North Cairn but stopped at the lough having twice sunk up to my knees in a peat bog, common sense finally prevailed. Trig is stone built, and bound up for a reason I can't work out, all s/holes open, metal cap shallow letters (has sustained some damage), overall a bit battered but will survive for a while.

Walked up from car park & visitor centre at J038198. Circular walk clockwise Through Slieve Gullion Forest Park before cutting up from western side. Continued north to lane and followed minor roads back via Clonlum Chambered Grave.
