My second 'Curry Stool' (and second of the day). So that's two boxes 'Tikka-d'...Long walk up from Hargill Bridge - my energy really started to Saag by the time I reached it...had a long snooze in the baking afternoon sunshine, used my rucksack as a Pilau...I also got some great pictures to send to me Naan...Stopped off at the Shooting Cabin on the way back, glad it's got Aloo...sorry, I'll get me coat.

Post lockdown weather and Bink Moss (N Pennines) chosen for a Nuttall plus a "Curry Stool". Parked on the B6276 and did an out and back. GR spot on. A queer little thing to find upon these desolate and barren moors. A quirky find. Boots still in situ. 2/5 are for the record breakers and makers this past weekend. Records are there to be broken.

From Hargill Bridge, wide roadside verge parking (NY 8836 2149). Good track mostly, last ~800m over rough grouse moorland. Legs becoming grassed over but still clear enough to be immediately spotted.

Walked up with P61 on 3 Trig day out fun top with the boots, next stop Great Knipe. (A curry stool is a type of survey mark used in peaty areas where a pillar would sink and natural rock was not available. The concrete, in the form of three arms meeting at a central point, sits on the peat and it was hoped to be a stable platform. They are named after Corporal Curry of the Royal Engineers).

Fourth visit to Bink Moss, first on 4.4.83. Didn't realise it was a Curry Stool on previous visits, though had noted the bolt, so had to come back and check! Good walk from decent parking at entrance to old mine road. Then via Fish Lake, Standards, Staple Moss (a previously unvisited Nick Wright 'top'), Hagworm Hill and fence to summit. Boots still there!

from Hargill bridge - room for one smallish car. Easy stroll up well made shooters track. passing numerous rodent traps on logs over streams - vicious things. hut is unlocked and has double glazed windows, patio and a loo!! - yes, you could overnight in it. track now extended beyond where it stops on map and now leads to around the 550m contour before veering off around the right of the hill. i didnt have time to go see where it went so headed straight up at this point. Top of Bink Moss is a sea of heather - though the gamekeepers regularly slash and burn so the going is not as bad as you might think. The wellies are still here. oh the joy! - though theyre well past their best. from the wellies you may spot a small cairn about 100m away - go look. it marks the Ordnance Survey curry stool. one of only 9 in the country. sort of a Y shaped concrete structure with a rivet in the centre. i spent a good 10 mins clearing the structure of heather grass and moss so it could be seen in all its tikka tremendousness.

Approached from B6276 up grouse shooting track, then compass bearing from the last shooting butt. No problem finding it despite lack of GPS. Marked by change in vegetation to grass with a clump of reeds by it as well as a very small cairn and a white marker pole for a grouse grit tray. Lots of moorland birds: lapwing, curlew, golden plover, ring ouzel, oystercatcher, red grouse.

Approached from High Force via fence to Hagworm Hill then over to Bink Moss. Boggy in places but not too bad.
