Visited during a 9.7 mile hike starting from the slate mine. Grey Knotts was the nearest and least inspiring peak to the slate mine with little to offer in the way of views. Fleetwith Pike and Hay Stacks more than made up for that. Trig point easily found with OS maps and the small cairn on the rocky outcrop. Good view of the slate mine on the way down via the steep descent.

Bolt still exposed beside cairn, with surrounding rivets. On round from Honister: Grey Knotts - Brandreth - Base Brown - Green Gable - Great Gable - Kirk Fell. Warm, calm and sunny: utterly unseasonal weather.

A quick dash up from the Honister slate mine, nice steep rocky path. 2" domed bolt set in mortar found under the cairn. Rebuilt cairn to one side leaving the bolt revealed. Also located 3 of the 4 witness rivets shown in the OS Sketch, all within close proximity, all with exposed shafts but all solid for the time being.

Shaft only. In dark but good torch and pretty sure the head is gone, not easy to find. At highest point of rock slab.

Spent the night at Black Sail YHA and then climbed up here via Brandraeth. Found no problem using GPS.

GPS is useful for this one as there are a few outcrops on Grey Knotts, and the trig point isn't at the highest point.

18th of 21 summits on the 31 mile Cumbrian Traverse http://www.gofar.org.uk/Cumbrian%20Traverse.html which we completed in 8:45 Didn't spot the trig - as suspected, it was hiding. Pity paintermain put the stone back!

Parked at gatesgarth farm did a round of fleetwith pike ,black star,grey knots, brandreth and haystacks.Clear sunny views and the wind was strong and chilly later on. Had to find bolt it was hidden under a stone which was replaced. Lots of rocky tors on this one great views, had a ready meal on the stove round the back sheltering from the wind,the all day breakfast is very tasty!

Rocky E top, just SE of fence, by E edge of cairn. OS online db gives GR as NY 21912,12612, height 697.382 Was marshalling at the Anniversary Waltz race (Dale Head horseshoe) earlier in the day.

Bagged this as part of a Nuttalls bagging day with KM. Walk 3.1 to Great Gable. Cloudy with tops covered in cloud to start with but started to clear around 2:00pm after Great Gable. Nice finish to the day as we descended back to Honister Pass
