Drove into the fort and asked the guys in the workshop if I could go up to look at the TP. Bolt easily found and great views.

Simply walked into the fort and asked the manager in the MicronAir workshop for permission, which was readily given despite the awful weather!

Visited on NT tour. Our guide didn't appear to know about the surface block but enthusiastically scampered with us up the grassy mound beside the toppled trig to find it. Concrete slab with brass dome at its centre, tiny centre dimple and 3 hammer(?) marks.

Former base of toppled pillar which lies a few feet away at bottom of magazine housing, on which this SB sits. On NT guided tour, paid our £3.50 each and had 90mins of history and 2 trigs thrown in. Fortunately no silly 'elf 'n' safety rules to prevent access to top of the magazine.

Visited after making appointment the day before by ringing MicronAir, was advised "I wouldn't usually do this". Great location bolt is located on the original pillar base it has a few marks on it hence slightly damaged. Views all around. Glad to of been able to get to see this one. Images to follow.

The SB is Good; the pillar is Toppled. Pillar lies at foot of the mound (service magazine) on which it formerly stood. FB and spider gone. Following Glaslyns find I contacted the NT and booked myself on a tour. Also got sister Palmerston Fort trigs at Purbrook and Southwick this morning - excellent day! 2 hour tour by knowledgeable volunteer Richard, covering the Palmerston Forts history and including a good look round, below and above ground.

The bulk of the pillar lies just to the N of the old location where there is a bolt. The spider has gone as well as the flush bracket. Access was gained as there was someone working within the fort when I arrived, after asking nicely was given permission to visit the site after being told to be careful not to fall in the moat.

I called in when last there, a Sat pm, gates locked, no-one around. Following Glaslyns report I contacted the NT who replied as follows: <Tours of Bembridge Fort are on 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the months starting on 20th April 2010 - please contact me to make a booking. There is some discussion as to the location of the trig point. I attach a photo of a bolt which is believed to be the original trig point but I am sure the tour guides will be able to advise more fully.> Contact is Nicola Cummins, 01983 741020

Crikey, I could see where this was, but getting to it...a completely different question. It's on a fort, surrounded by quite a decent sized ditch/moat with vertical sides. The only entrance makes it clear that it's private property.
