Return visit. There are three witness rivets on surrounding rocks. Found a very convincing 1” dia round hole on buried rock at correct location. 6” below turf. The bolt has been removed. Left uncovered but built a small cairn over the top. There is a CBM on a rock outcrop by the mast - distance from there to GR is 31.17m. Small cut through route through wall is ~25m to west along wall from CBM. Distance to GR from cut though is 24.44m from there. Distance to rivet by summit cairn is 4.12m and from the other two rivets 7.20m and 2.31m.

Found three rivets. None of which align with the 81ft dimension from wall which seems to emerge from a sheep gap, so these are almost certainly witness rivets. GR is in tussocky grass SW of cairn and here all three witness rivets surround it which makes sense. Nice spot when cloud clears. Will return.

GR is in between the two rocks with the witness rivets on them almost inline.

Still has triangle on 25k map. OS say height to Bolt in rock, seems most likely the 3 rivets are witness marks, but the middle one is usually large and matches the GR to 1m so maybe a large rivet with 2 witness marks? 5m S of the rivet by the cairn and c4m from the other rivet. Not an ideal spot to set up an instrument over so I'm dubious. Investigated a few mossy rocks between the 3 rivets but no bolt found. Up from caravan park to SW, descended SE to High Newton resr where there's parking. Back along the old road, a few BMs en route

25k map still as a trig symbol as of 2022

Well, what can I say? 3 rivets found: one on the summit rock - it was slightly obscured by the cairn, which I dismantled looking for a bolt and re-built to one side leaving the rivet clear; the other 2 found on nearby rocks to the south paced out at 5m and 9m. OS describe this as a Bolt, but it's been changed on T:UK to Rivet, so perhaps it is a rivet, perhaps it's the rivet on the summit rock. That's where my money is.

OS name Saskills. Station number T046 in Secondary Block SD47. Listed as a Bolt - I found a slightly damaged rivet on the NW side of the cairn. I couldn't see a Bolt, although it could be hiding under the cairn. It is not unknown for bolts and rivets to be mixed up. So on balance I think the rivet is the mark, and I have marked it as Slightly damaged. When the convention changed from marking all trig marks to just pillars on 1:25k maps, clearly they overlooked removing this one. Sodden walk through thick bracken from the reservoirs. Sorry - no photo, I left my camera behind. Grid ref above is from the OS.
