Previously visited in 2011 when one of the witness marks was mis-identified as the trig. Thanks to CJO, the bolt was easy to find today. Witness Marks 2, 3 and 4 also located but didn't spot WM1. Sunny day, nice views, verbose visitors. Windermere very commercialised - half expected the sheep to be carrying advertising.

Found a parking spot on minor road to east, at start of PROW. Up track then, once past the tress, followed well-worn path to the top. Found a rivet easily by using gateposts and photos. Then a bit of scouting around the vicinity turned up another rivet.

Found the 2 rivets, probably just witness marks; northernmost rivet matches GR, but there should be a bolt, scraped a few rocks between the two rivets but nothing else found.

Approx 7m NNW of the redundant gateposts, on exposed rock and free of any vegetation. ***3 Sep 2022 update. The rivet seems to be Witness Rivet No 4 as detailed in the OS Sketch, so not the Bolt. Have changed the type from Rivet to Bolt, as per the OS Trig dBase.

2 mile circular on Brant Fell on my birthday, after bagging Loughrigg Fell earlier that day, the weather was awful, can't complain though we had just had 4 days in Scotland in sunshine bagging Broad Law, Culter Fell, Beinn Dorain, Beinn an Dothaidh, Ben Nevis, Black Meldon, White Meldon and Tinto. We were expecting to see a trig pillar up here though!

It looks like once upon a time there was an iron fence up here which as since been cut down..

Recorded on my (old) 1:25k map of the area but couldn't find any evidence on ground. Listed on the OS database as a bolt, last maintained 1976, not destroyed, at 190m. Visited as a minor detour whilst completing an excellent walk the length of the Dales Way. Stunning views the length of Windermere and surrounding fells, and well worth the easy climb even if no evidence of any survey point.
