When planning route for the day found out about this significant location so it was included. Tricky parking as others have said but easy to access. Shame about the litter. It’s in a small area of maintained grass and bushes but looked a bit messy at the time. Historic. It needs more research to understand what a base line is. The thought of measuring 27404 feet is mind boggling. Is that how far it is to Greenwich from this spot?

A drive past, twice, today as I couldn’t find anywhere to park. I’d just driven up from the SE marker cannon.

8 out of 10 for historical significance. Parked 5 minutes away surrounded by signs threatening tickets, clamps and being towed away. Scampered across the Bath Road and located the canon and plaque easily. I visited this trig many years ago before the present level of development at Heathrow, hopefully it will remain safe for many years to come.

The other end of the Hounslow baseline. Cannon in good condition but apparently moved from original location. Parking nearby not easy so left car near to the Heathrow employment and skills academy and it was a 5 minutes walk from there.

High points for historical value, but is it a trig? Not listed in the OS database, but suppose it gets the benefit of the doubt. The given GR is around 70m out. Cannon, with memorial plaque, is located on N side of the Northern Perimeter Road.

N side of North Perimeter Road, south of Nene Roundabout. Must have been moved, as given grid ref is inside the airport perimetre fence. My grid ref is the same as for CJO and pog.

Arrived on late flight from Newcastle, leaving on early flight to Stavanger, resulted in narrow search window. The grid ref given is in Heathrows Met station area, given the number of signs displayed this is the sort of fence you do not climb. Using the head torch to illuminate the dark corners it was clear that any cannon was well hidden. This did not seem right, earlier posters did not report great problems. Not wishing to admit defeat, closer examination of 1:25000 map shows cannon to north of road, sure enough there it was. Just goes to show how easy it is to be misled by modern technology.

Definitely North of the OS GridRef, but pleasantly "gardened" and formally plaqued. Visited during a Convention at the neighbouring Rennaissance Hotel. Fitting that one of the first Trigs has turned out to be Ben's last... he went Walkabout at the Con - Fair travels my lil Bear-Friend. :-)

Having booked my accomodation for the weekend and bought the maps, I remembered reading a log for this. Not a scenic country cycling route, but worth travelling this way to view. Followed signed cycle route in from West alongside A4. No problem finding with map from Website and of course no stopping problems on a bike!

As part of dropping my son off at Heathrow, I took an evening walk from the hotel to this important historical site for mappites. 1 to 250000 map has it spot on though there is nowhere to park for a lengthy stay; at night there's far less traffic so there would be less of a problem. It's hard to imagine what the whole area looked like in the 1780's when the baseline was set up; now planes constantly take off and land and it's surrounded by tarmac and concrete. I'm glad the effort has been made to commemorate the triangulation. Tomorrow the other end!

Two days after visiting the east end of the baseline, I bagged the brace with this visit. Again, amazed that such an important historic site is relatively unheralded. Thanks to cmb1953 and Griefmiester was an easy find - finding car parking was more difficult! (Try the Heathrow Visitor Centre, a few hundred metres to the east of Nene Road.)

Happened to see Dal's entry for this when browsing the daily logs a while back; I have used the adjacent car park on a weekly basis for three years without realising it was here. Benefiting from an early-arriving flight (they do happen occasionally) and a nice sunny evening (ditto) went to look at it en route home. Very good condition and felt somewhat reverential in the presence of such an important relic of survey history. Interesting plaque, including the measured lengths of the baseline at various dates. Always amazed how accurate late 18th century surveys actually were!

Marks the north-western end of General Roy's baseline. I have read that this cannon was moved in 1944 and later returned. The cannon at the other end (in Roy Grove) seems to be in the original position. The cannons date from 1791, replacing the original wooden stakes of 1784.

Visited on 4th Aug, but no evidence of cannon. All I could see on the site was a compound full of aerials and antenna.Parking not too much of a problem at this time of night. P.S. After seeing griefmiesters photos, I think I was looking in the wrong place!! All I had to go on was the arrow on the map we access. Revisited on 6th and found it straight away on N side of perimeter road on the W side of junction with Nene Road. Apparently this gun barrel was at the Ordnance Survey Headquarters at Chessington for some time.

North-western end of the Hampstead Heath baseline by Roy (and later Mudge). Was at an event at the Radisson Edwardian over the road and escaped one day to walk from Heathrow to the other end of the baseline then onto Mortlake picking up Teddington Active Station, Ham and Richmond Hill on the way. Cannon is marked on the 1:25k map.

Visited in March 2010 but was unable to get listed - i think it might of been moved at some stage - located right next to Airport Northern Road just as you enter Airport from M4 spur on the right as you drive in.
