This isn’t marked on the OS map (sheet 175), nor on the map on here. Only realised this and it’s neighbour were here when looking at details for Touchen End. Parked by church in Winkfield and went north along footpath on west side of church. Into field behind church, Footpath continues in north west direction. Over double fence to north of grassy field (possibly a horse paddock) is a fairly large house with a large garden. The west pillar is visible from the field beside some sort of tree house and a rock sculpture. Cap missing. Pillar weathered, but ok. Extra point for double pillars. What’s the story? Maybe someone who used to live here collected them. Strange the high FB numbers are consecutive. Other logs mention it was a satellite tracking station at one time. Views of house and fields beyond.

Like with nearby Winkfield access not possible. Instead parked by church and used footpath to access paddock field that pillar is adjacent to. After heavy rain field was very muddy.

From the RoW running to W side of the church. Access a little tricky but not too difficult. Pillar sits in long grass next to a psuedo-rock-sculpture (it's hollow). Charente Hall doesn't look as though it's occupied, nor the new build either, but there were cars on site by a caravan. Looks like a vanity project and the money's run out! Pillar has no top cap or plug; LHS sight hole is open. Top screen is deteriorating. Views to NE only. On to the Winkfield pillar 150m ESE.

Congratulations to Griefmiester for finally finding this little oddity! Inspired by his success I high-tailed it down the M4 from Bristol after an early shift. A warning that access is iffy at best as Charente Hall and grounds are currently a construction site. I was escorted to and from the pillar by a friendly workman but the foreman seemed none too pleased! The pillar stands on the south side of the southern perimeter track beside a line of trees and two strangely-shaped chunks. FB faces NNE; ESE sighthole open, others plugged; plug/cap missing. The two pillars here are just 500 feet apart and seem to be related to a Minitrack Satellite Tracking Station, part of NASA's STADAN network. The station here at Winkfield - the only such STADAN site in the UK - was established in 1960-1 and handed back to the UK's Science Research Council on 30 Sep 1980.

Found it! I assumed that it was its neighbour until I got home and looked at the images, will go back tomorrow and bag the other one! Looks like it is few meters to the North West from where it is supposed to be, next to art work pretend stone thing (see images)not sure if it has been moved? - It is located in what is currently a building site for a new out building for Charente Hall, I asked for permission at the site office and after a short Trigpointing lesson i was taken to the pillar. Good condition missing cap, strange markings on what looks like an added bit or mortar with a 4 and a circle with a dot. It looks like it going to be a feature of the landscaping if the strange stone thing next door is anything to go by - top score for being the first to find it :). Update 5/7/2013 - it does look as if my Satmap is a few meters out ,might of been the proximity to the trees, I concur with Ed. the pillar in on the southern perimeter road and is inline with its neighbour, so use his position not mine! :). Thanks Ed. After some internet serching I have found some information about this area see - http://www.bfec.us/bfecpho39.htm - it appears to of been a Satellite tracking station in the 1960's I assume the reason for the pillars?
