Long walk in on good tracks and paths from near the stone circle. Not to bad breaking the cairn down nice 2 inch bolt on diamond shaped rock, rebuilt the cairn afterwards rate this find and view especially today no wind and sunny clear views to Pillar mountain ranges super find Jonglew.

Well, it's still there though getting to it after a long walk isn't easy, nor putting everything back together.

Visited on a tour of Wainwrights and Birketts from the Wasdale YHA: Red Pike - Scoat Fell - Steeple - Haycock - Little Gowder Crag - Caw Fell - Iron Crag - Seatallen. Didn't intend doing Iron Crag as it's a bit out of the way but weather was good and had plenty of time. As the cairn was quite small decided to dismantle it to see if the bolt was there - it is. Lovely views over NW fells but cloud still down on Caw Fell.

The reported Grid ref is on top of the summit cairn, although on occasion it was indicated as being 1m south. Had a look around but did not feel upto dismantling cairn. Excellent views up Ennerdale and across to the Isle of Man and of course the Sellafield facilities. My old (1982) 1:25000 sheet has this marked as a triangulation station, just the cairn is marked on my 1:25000 modern map

bolt under cairn? cairn at NY 12324 11923
general view a lot of rock but i believe bolt is under cairn
