Took advantage of the dry crisp February weather to look for some of the newly found concrete rings. This one we failed to find 10 years ago. Walked up from Blades and with help of the GPS quickly found the mound of disturbed soil and depression. Had bought gloves, trowels, and jug for bailing so no problem exposing the ring and bolt. Nice find, CJO!

From SE, parked at Blades, in the last hour of daylight, my 50th concrete ring trig. That's all the currently known ones, doubtless more found soon.

Little White Bus from Richmond to Low Row. Lane climbing steeply out of the valley past barns and cottages; mostly restored but a few abandoned. Tracks less obvious higher up the fell. Overcast, dry and windy afternoon but the ground soggy from recent rain. CJO's cairn located in otherwise featureless moorland; ring and bolt exposed after a few minutes bailing. Site left as found.

Was about to drive home but checked the trig site at Aysgarth where I could eventually get a signal, had a feeling Chris would be in the Dales. I saw his log so being not far away I drove over and bagged it super find once again in the middle of nowhere had to bail out but it wasn't to bad a large brass bolt. Nice shooters track leads almost to the trig.

Concrete ring. Two GPS receivers present in party gave the same GR but operators were stood 10m apart. Found a few stones pocking out of what was otherwise mown heather so dug hole to reveal ring, and a bit further the bolt concreted to the bedrock. Filled hole with all the stones we could find and then replaced turf leaving 4-6 inch depression which will be easy to spot for next visitor as there is no obvious POR to measure to. Built a peat cairn left adjacent and covered that with bits of turf. 2”bolt about 1 foot deep. Clear and sunny day with stiff breeze.

Ring with bolt cemented to bedrock
Couldn’t find many rocks to back fill (painterman will be happy) - covered with turf to create an obvious 4” depression
As left with cairn marker adjacent
Bolt concreted to bedrock
peat boggy - will need bailer

Our GPS gave the location as being in a sea of heather and not at the actual summit. Poked around with long screw drivers but no solid rock to put a bolt in. Headed up towards the actual summit and found (by chance) a geocache at 96876 99469 on the GPS.. still no solid rock. Have checked on OS website and the grid reference given is the same as theirs. They state "Ht to bolt in rock. Mark buried"...so if it is there its going to be under quite a depth of heather and peat!...guess its the pick and shovel job again.
