Block installed 1953. Used the OS sketch available from https://trigpointing.uk/wiki/File:Lancashire-TP8398-SandylandsBridge-SurfaceBlock.jpg which was helpful in narrowing the search area. SW side of road, SE side of railway line. Of the short measures, the concrete fence posts have been replaced by a steel palisade fence, leaving the corner of bridge parapet (3.9m) and kerb edge as references. The kerb extends under the verge giving an overall width of approx 0.5m. This compares with the sketch measure of 0.57m from kerb edge to trig. Road too busy to attempt the longer sketch measures. Had a quick look for witness marks but nothing seen. Nearer the path, the verge was soft and easy to probe, but nothing was detected. Whilst there is insufficient evidence to conclude that the trig has been destroyed, the chances of survival seem low, so logged somewhat inconclusively as possibly missing.

Revisit to confirm GPS position. I confirm the GPS position is on the SW side of the bridge. The narrow grass strip has a broad kerb partially covered in grass. The grass verge has concrete underneath holding kerbstone in position. Not willing to dig the whole grass strip up.

Sandylands Bridge Grass strip on SW side of bridge. Wide kerb stone adjacent to road is bedded into concrete which extends a long way under grass. Probing not an effective technique. Screwdriver depicts prefered GPS location.

Revisit on my way to do some birdwatching at Heysham to check location following the comment made by CJO. My GPS still shows the given Grid Ref to be on the SW side of the road - not sure what that means...

since the visit by lonesome-cowboy-burt I think it is now safe to say this has been destroyed/possibly missing, as a cycle track has been installed. Just realised that lonesome-cowboy-burt is looking at the SW side of the bridge whilst i believe the surface block in on the NE side. POSTSCRIPT 9th sept. In response to Lonesome_Cowboy_Burt. As you were passing and confirmed the location I think this just emphasisies the possible errors in modern technology. MY GPS in normally within 2-3m but on occasion has reached 30m. If i'm passing again i'll certainly revisit the site and check position.
