When I started up from Glamisdale, the top was still in cloud, but it was clear by the time that I arrived at the trigpoint, so I had great view in all directions. Pillar is in good condition, except that cap is missing from the spider. I didn't see anyone else at all until I was halfway back down again, when I met the day trippers on their way up.

The peak dominates the skyline of Eigg and the surrounding islands despite its relatively small size. Easier to reach than expected by a boggy path the summit has great views to Rum, Muck and the Scottish mainland. Blustery day.

Another fantastic walk on Eigg (although I preferred the other trig walk). Was on my own until my descent when HOARDS of other walkers, including a large walking party, passed me - used the opportunity to get a rare summit photo, however, as retraced my steps to the summit. Not a tiring walk, but, for vertigo sufferers like myself, quite scary as once you've climbed through the magic staircase to the south side of the massif, it's quite precipitous. The red dots on the stones make navigation easy. Lots of dead Magpie Moths (and some alive ones too) en route, but little else wildlife wise. Look out for mermaids in the lochan with the island - I've been told they're there!

Can't remember the exact date, but I do remember the visit - as the SMC book quite rightly says, this is one of the most magical places in the Western Isles. A beautifully positioned Vanessa pillar, close enough to the edge of a 800' drop to give my wife (and the dog by proxy) a dose of the heeby-jeebies.

One of the truly magical places in the Western Isles - so says the SMC Corbett book (though not a Corbett itself). The headland of An Sgurr can be seen so distinctively from all over. On closer acquaintance the tower is quite awe inspiring, but fortunately there is an easy way round the back. Visibility poor on this occasion.

my 19th birthday after a week in torridon camping with three mates from school. Stayed one night on Rum and while wandering near the sea on one of the eastern bays, met a a chirpy laid back black guy who was so surprised to see us and amused us by saying in a slow laid back drawl,"Hey, how did you cats get here." One of my mates, quick as a flash and cool as a cucumber, said, "We swam, mate."
