(1125) Viewed general area only, and after reading Ted's detailed log, you would have to conclude as well that this block is long gone.

Station record for this trig obtained from the National Archive, Dec 2014. The constructors report, dated 30.9.48, states "Stn marked by a concrete block, approx 1 ft cube, with half inch rods, driven through to anchor, and centre mark, of half inch rod, standing 1/2 inch out of block" . The station report dated Sept 86 includes the comment "T71 :- BLOCK NOT FOUND. Only 1 definite and 1 possible measurement remain. Trig plotted on 1/1250 plan and scale measurements taken. Ground excavated to a depth of 18" but surface block not found. From RP photography of 1948 it is obvious that major engineering works have taken place to the main bridge adjacent to the block. The block was levelled to in 1963 and was reported to be 0.6 ft below GL" The station sketch, dated 10.10.48, shows three gate posts and two telegraph posts, all of which have gone. Assuming that the most northerly gate post abutted the S end of the low wall which remains, then the measure of 2.04 metres E would give the trig location. But it seems possible that the wall has been rebuilt and the ramp to the towpath widened. So given that the OS couldn't find the mark, would conclude that the block has now gone.

My GPS agrees with MAC.HAWK, by the manhole cover. If the block exists it can only be on the small grassy area by the bridge.....but the GPS does not point here, a cursory probe of the grass unearthed a few stones

Allerton Manhole cover is the prefered GPS location. The grassy bank is the only location that the block might conceivably be found if there is any measurement error. Nice views along the canal.

GPS locates it at eastern side of Barnsdale Road at the top of the access path to the canal (roughly where the manhole cover is). GPS says accuracy to within 12 feet. Nothing obviously visible on the tarmac.
