Bagged the top before having a comprehensive tour of the buiding.Everything from a tour of the crypt (Nelson seemed to be buried directly below the domes centre) to the 528 step climb to the top viewing plartform.The previous St Pauls was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. I was told the old spire was a full Nelson's Column higher than the present height.

I've just read Rachel Hewitt's excellent 'Map Of A Nation', in which she describes the Ordnance Survey's perilous task in measuring from the cross and ball on top of St Paul's Cathedral in 1848. There were definitely no surveyors perched up there today; all calm, unlike at street level.

Great cathedral went inside and up top to the dome roof, great views of everything in London apart from Big Ben.

Visited the cathedral on the way to have a pint of Guinness as part of my challenge to have a pint of Guinness in every European Capital City. It helped having a priest with you who knows that you can get free entry into the cathedral at 5pm for eneningsong.

Special visit to log the intersected station. Not sure how I got here from Westminster Cathedral but my partner in crime seemed to have an encyclopedic knowledge of the underground from working in London 35 odd years ago...me I've not been here since a school trip 40 years ago. Walked over the Millenium bridge (no wobble) to get photos of the National Westminster Tower Anemometer pole...shame about losing the camera!
