Towards dusk on a quiet Sunday evening ... the Church and town centre looked very attractive. Unfortunately not able to access the tower.

Today being an open day for the Church of St. John the Baptist, Cirencester Tower decided best to come and clear these two up here. After ringing first in chamber, popped on up the spiral staircase to the roof to enjoy a beautiful view today, could even seen the Three Buses/The Clumps 20 miles away on the ridgeway, clearly. Picture taken of my glasses with bolt, and one of gargoyles which is more fun than the flagstaff.

Found as YSM576. As the tower is only open to the public for 5 days a year a special trip was planned to get this TP. It costs £3 to walk up the tower and you can ring the bells as well. Look out for the punk gargoyle at the top as well.

Paid the £3 to visit the top of tower as it is only open s few times in the year. Lots of steps but well worth the visit. They even let me ring the bells. A cracking hour spent here. Highly recommended. Good views too.

The tower of the Parish Church of St John the Baptist is open to the public for 5 or 6 days every year. Despite living in the town all my life I had never been up the tower before. I arrived at the opening time at 10am and paid my £3 before climbing the 204 steps up the very narrow spiral staircase. Despite starting off at a fair pace it was a very warm and humid morning and as I continued past the bell ringing room, the clock mechanism and the bell chamber I slowed down quite a bit before emerging into the bright sunlight at the top! The bolt is easily visible on the ridge of the roof, 1.7m from the centre of the flagstaff (TP9787) which doubles as a radio transmitter. Absolutely superb views over the town and surrounding countryside - well worth the effort!
