At long last someone's turned the central heating up outside, however bitterly cold at Dunmail at 7.30 am when I was waiting to meet and greet the "Three Musketeers" on a JNR attempt. I saw the contenders through then parked down at Grasmere to visit 9 Birketts, including all the Langdale Pikes, was cheeky and popped High Raise pillar in to make it 10. The day just kept on giving and descended on a lovely route back to the village through a juniper "forest". I have only come across juniper once before on the Pennine Way, so what an absolute delight to see one of only three conifer species native to the UK in abundance on a rarely visited area above Grasmere. I gift High Raise to the juniper forest, stepping back into ancient times.

Parked in the car park next to the New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel on the B543. Took the public right of way from the hotel up to the summit of High Raise and the pillar, which takes you past the Stickle Tarn mountain lake and Sergeant Man. Whilst the climb starts off at 92 metres, and rises ultimately to 762 metres, the bulk of the ascent is on the first third of the journey from the hotel up to the Stickle Tarn. The cap was missing, so I replaced it
