Found a 'stump' of what looks like the post in agentmancuso's photo, on the right before you get to pillar on West side of road, houses in the distance. Raining hard, so didn't hang around.

Not exactly sure what a pipe nail mark is in this context- but the two posts identified by other baggers appear to mark the location of a gas main crossing the road. The photo from agentmancuso looks a lot taller than the current gas pipe marker post and has a different colour scheme has something changed? Footnote: pipe nails (large headed nails) were often used by OS as location markers inserted in fenceposts etc to aid the finding of blocks.

I think the wobbly marker I found E side of old road is for the HP gas main: there's a newer plastic one on W side of road and expected location is 10 m further S, on verge only 7 m from the trig pillar itself - where there's no marker as of Oct 2013 - has the one in sgentmancuso's pic gone?

Assuming it's what's in agentmancuso's photo.....however, there's another on the opposite side of the road and it's pretty wobbly. I'm not convinced....

Not entirely sure that this is the right object, as there's nothing to compare it with. But it's in the right place, is of the right age, and would conceivably have been the obvious choice to stand in for the pillar if visibility was already being obscured by vegetation (in 1990 when the mark was computed), which is the usual meaning for an auxiliary.
