0 9m down!! Immediately to SE of marker stake. Probing identified stones. Digging these out, and digging out soft peat we were able to probe down and find the block, then eventually dig down to it. Didn't have time to locate the bolt, but the block is apparently square, not a concrete ring. Hole left open but will likely infill itself in time.

A bit of a speculative dig after peregrinus found stones in a patch of ground at the island summit that wasn't compacted. He continued probing elsewhere whilst I dug. After going down ~30-40cm and removing the stones, re-probing the hole struck something more positive, which turned out to be 0.9m depth. Peat was excavated to that depth to reveal the block. Left the hole open, hopefully the next bagger will take a spade and enlarge the hole diameter.

OS trig archive has Buried Block at NF 83088 82333 (also an Old Trig). At grassy summit is a piece of angle iron stuck in the ground with some kind of entry formed by a couple of stones, but feeling around inside all I could find was loose soil approx 0.5m down with nothing concrete or bolt-like. Lacked the equipment or appetite for significant excavation. Not a bad wee island, listed in Haswell-Smith's book hence the visit. Half-day charter of a local boat out of Lochboisdale, for Eileanan Iasgaich, Calvay and Stuley.
