Pleasant stroll from S on sunny breezy morning, easier to keep to track rather than following RoW across muddy pathless field. Replacement block at trackside should still be there, didn't probe

Walking up from Ramsbury, the footpath traverses a recently ploughed field - 100m of heavy clay! The surface block is marked as destroyed, but it could be hidden under the vegitation that's growing over the old concrete runway (or peri track). Farmland views across the Downs.

Nothing to add to Tom's log. Pleasant stroll up from Ramsbury. Could well be hiding under grass.

I noticed this trig added to the database in October 2011. I didn’t enter my log earlier as I found no evidence of a trig at the site. The site of the trig is now near a path on the edge of a stubbly arable field in the North Wessex Downs to the west of Hungerford. It replaced the nearby Ramsbury Aerodrome block that was destroyed in the same year. The site was reached by the footpath from the minor road to the south. The path mostly follows a runway of the former World War II airfield. There was no sign of the trig on the ground although it could well be present under the turf. The site looks out over large flat agricultural fields that occupy the site of the old aerodrome. The distant long ridge of the north eastern edge of Salisbury Plain can be seen to the south. The partly wooded tops of some nearby downs can be seen to the north and east. The clump of trees on Martinsell is prominent on the distant south western skyline. Continuing along the path to the edge of the field there is a view over Ramsbury in the valley below. The airfield was in use by the RAF and the USAAF between 1942 and 1946. Little evidence of this remains apart from concrete farm tracks that were once part of the runways.
