There was thought to be a Hydrographic survey pillar here. Not found on headland nor summit despite an hour or so searching; didn't spot a brass plate either. Nice location though. Only evidence of its existence is a 2004 Barbara Jones distant sighting from boat. Perhaps the sighting was of the chunky telephone pole-derived fencepost with crosspiece on headland, which is all that's there now. Original 26 July 2004 report: "Two more apparently slim Admiralty pillars were sighted on Sgeir an Araig, a small island in the middle of the Loch, at NG 832 898 and just north of Slaggan Bay on the Gob a’ Gheodha headland at NG 837 946. These were seen from a greater distance than the previous two and their identification as Admiralty pillars is not so certain. However they were certainly not standard OS pillars." Kevin McGovern notes that there is nothing marked on the Admiralty chart for this location, unlike Ploc an t-Slagain which is shown.
Phantom trig? Post on headland - looks quite striking and prominent from a distance - maybe this gave rise to the trig pillar theory?
