Visited whilst on day out with Painterman61, the 2.5m puts it under tarmac.

Copy of the OS Office File obtained. It includes a report dated 4/83 which states 'Road now metalled. Block situated at edge of road 2" under tarmac level'. This confirms RHW's suggestion that this was an unsurfaced lane at the time when the block was installed. The OS sketch, available from https://trigpointing.uk/wiki/File:TP8586_Green_Lane_Sketch.jpg shows a distance from the road junction of 41.12 metres; also a distance of 2.50 metres (8.20 ft) from the block to the centre of the hedge on the NW side of the lane. Site visit: measured along the verge from the crossroads to establish the estimated location, slightly E from a gap in the hedge. Then measured 2.5 metres from the centre line of the hedge; there wasn't a distinct boundary between verge and road but the distance implies that the block location was either at the very edge of the road or else just under the tarmac. Probed parallel to the road edge for 2 metres in each direction - nothing found except for a broken brick and a few small stones. Gave up after 25 minutes; maybe the next visitor will have more success. Also checked the hedgerow for a possible discard but only found a large stone and another broken brick. If the road has been slightly widened during further resurfacing then the trig could now be beneath the tarmac. Alternatively, if the verge level has been raised then the block may be deeper than indicated on the sketch.

(3494) Nothing found. No destruction date, so may still be present. Who knows.

My GPS indicated N edge of carriageway. Dug out 2 largeish bits of concrete slab from verge, not trig related I think. Block possibly dates back to a time when it was an actual green lane?

GR is on road at high spot slightly favouring south side. Nothing in either verge worth digging for. Standard huge dung heap adjacent.
