Interesting point about replacement FBs is that the FB is a benchmark not a trig so arguably if only the 'benchmark' is replaced it's still the same trig and shouldn't have a second entry in T:UK - discuss. As it happens the replacement FB has also gone now.

Walked a long, arduous 15-16 miler to take in Wild Boar Fell and its tops, plus much of the western Mallerstang skyline. Wonderful walk. Previous trig site obviously became the current replacement site. The replacement trig - as remembered - was in a very weathered state, stone-built, but intact. Stone windbreak/shelter was very welcome.

Wild Boar Fell FB 10797 to FB 11810 In Wainwright's book Walks on the Howgill Fells and Adjoining Fells he goes in to quite a lot of detail about Wild Boar Fell including a nice sketch of the Trig and stating the column number as 10797 the book was published in 1972, he later received a letter from a certain Mr Bob Swallow questioning his recording of the said number, as it turned out they were both right “the original plaque having been pilfered and subsequently replaced with the next available number“, this information was gleaned from a book by W R Mitchell After You Mr. Wainwright the foreword written by Bob Swallow. therefore I suggest this column was not destroyed but simply allocated a new number backing up this theory is Wainwrights detailed sketch in which the trigs construction looks simaler to the one I photographed in 2006 although the years have taken their toll and recent photos sugest it may soon topple.
