Gates were open so drove in and was given the ok and escorted by the owner to the pillar She was interested in the history of the pillar and so was her partner who said he may move it nearer the road for easy access as they do not like people near the doggy day care centre

3 of 3 with Debi. Parked up near the farm entrance and looked through the large metal gates - could see the trig in the field. Looked over toward the buildings and could see someone, a large chain was unlocked hanging down, so I tried to open the gate, which made a noise (there was another lock inside). This got the guy's attention though and he came over. I said "sorry to bother you but wondered if it would be ok to take a quick photo next to your trig?". He let us in and said he gets several people interested in it, but is annoyed when people think they have a right to be there without asking first! He said the farm has been in his family for over 100 years and that he's thought about getting rid of the trig (as the tractor wants to plot a line straight through it). I said if he does move it, it would be really good if it were relocated somewhere accessible by all :-) We were lucky he was there to ask when we showed up.

From lane, entered footpath running north to west of pillar. Past a couple of horse paddocks. About level with the last building to to the east, crossed paddocks, ducked under fence to east boundary. Barbed wire fence but quite low. Not sure what buildings are for, possibly some sort of accommodation possibly something horsey. Nobody about continued east then pillar spotted in open field. Reasonable views to east. Spider and cap in place. Couldn’t see an easier access from the west unless the metal gates were to be open.

Looked at this one a few years ago, but was unable to get access. Things have changed now. The big gates are still there, they were open with a sign pointing to a kennels, so I drove in parked asked the girls working there and was given permission to wander over, the field is now has cut grass, very different to CJO image form 2012. Pillar good condition.

Immediate access from lane prevented by large hedges and locked security gate. However, there is a clearly marked footpath to the West, and ready access across apparently abandoned fields. Pillar readily visible.

Delivering rhubarb plants to Singing Friends, so an opportunity for a little light trigging en route. Very lucky here - peering through gate at trig, thinking b****r another blue dot! when the farmer turned up (tip - he only knows this as a lump of concrete in his paddock, and not as a trig, pillar etc!). Told me of the number of visitors he gets (to his mystification), the problems he's had with trespassers (the new gates are a result of a 4WD that drove all the way to the trig wrecking his hay crop), and that he has a chap who has made five offers to buy the trig which he has refused - he asked me whether he owned it, I replied I thought not, so he said if it belonged to someone else he'd try not to hit it with his hay cutting machinery! What a wonderful chap, bless! Rolling Herts views, W s/hole open, metal cap shallow letters, exc condition.

A locked gate prevented access, approached via PROW to West and crossed several fences to enter a group of fields waist deep in grass with even taller nettles and thistles. The previously reported stables look disused with the adjacent barn used to store assorted farming and building materials. As it was getting pretty late i did not wish to draw attention to my prescence even though nobody was obviously around. Initially I could not see the Pillar, but once I stood on a pile of gravel i could see the Pillar peeping out from a clump of nettles. saw a fox as i made a stealthly retreat.

Was hoping to find a friendly stablehand but nobody about when I came calling. So quickly jumped the fences & grabbed a couple of pics while my daughter distracted the geese. Will probably be appearing on crimewatch later as I clocked the CCTV camera on the way back :(
