Roadside parking on minor road to E (NS 3914 7154). Walked S on road ~125m then hopped fence and up. A bit of a sprawling and scrappily built stone pillar was unexpectedly encountered. 'BSM' style FB; centre cap missing, no plug; no sight holes seen. Extensive views, across the River Clyde particularly good.

Log #487. I'd been putting this one off for some reason, no idea why. Nice walk along the road, over the gate, then well-shorn grassy tracks all the way to the pillar. Wasn't expecting a stone-built pillar, in good condition other than the cap missing. Good views along the Clyde include Dumbarton Rock. [ExP-328/MiP-38/Rev-6/BM-39/IS-50/Other-26]

Second visit. Parking nearby is limited to a single car on west verge just north of old building mapped east of trig. Recommend to climb hill from opposite woods to the south. Roadside fence hop then no more obstacles. Unusal stone built pillar. Spider centre open. No apparent sight holes. Flush bracket faces WSW, ~241°. Full 360° panoramic view, particularly over Dumbarton Rock and further to the north.

First visit. To record FB number. HISTORY: Pillar completed in December 1945 costing £7.12s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS77/11 within the Glasgow block during 1946. Levelled for height in 1969. Last maintained by the OS in July 1978. SITE VISIT: Stone built triangulation pillar approximately 3 feet high. The spider is missing its OS plug. The flush bracket, a BsM, is on the south face of the pillar. Most of the trig pillars in secondary block NS77 (Glasgow) have BsM flush brackets numbered in the range S3551 to S3677. Secondary block NS77 is pentagonal. The five corners of NS77 are marked by the primary points at Earls Seat, Ben Cleugh, Tinto, Corse Hill and Hill of Stake. Barscube Hill is a mile south of the River Clyde opposite Dumbarton. Fine views all round. Photographed 14/05/1996, GRP.
