Visited on numerous occasions but often tend to go from Glenconon Road end and up the farm track to the end and then cut up across the moors straight for summit. Stunning summit

HISTORY: Pillar completed 13th October 1957 costing £74.1s.8d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NG24/34 within the Skye block during 1958. Levelled for height to Class 2 precision also in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in April 1978. SITE VISIT: Overall approach from west. Parked in road end farmyard at NG419628 with kind permission from lady in last house, Balnaknock. Followed mapped track then path all the way to summit. Large grazing hill. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces WSW, compass measurement 248°. Vented through three sight holes, left (NW) hole still mostly blocked, pillar bolt viewable. The potential 360° panoramic view was lost to low cloud on day of visit.

Really isolated spot! Excellent all-round views! Pillar is in good condition save for a plastic plug replacement. Quite a lot of faded white paint. Concrete base exposed at grass level all round. Surrounded on three sides by a low wall of stones. Three sight-holes open. Great spot!

south to north walk from the Storr, with a sting in the tail as I hoped to hitch a lift back but didn't get out on to the Quiraing road till about 9pm. Never got a lift. Had to walk 13 miles back along to road, deliriously tired which took five hours and made the walk 24 miles ...and all of it in my green Hunter wellies!!!
