Delighted to find the track from the south not gated and driveable, so why wouldn't you, but with one glitch there's no final track up up to the summit from NW and doesn't look like it ever existed, so ascended from bend to the south, @905 423, up the fence line. Calm sunny day with views or to the Moray Firth

Parked at the main entrance to the forest close to spot height 224. As many other others the last section of track is now overgrown but there is a deer path through most of it and once you get to the last little bit you can weave through the trees which is easier. Returned via the fire break to the west, this is quite wet in places.

Parked in the wide forestry junction and headed up the path. As mentioned the last section of path to the pillar no longer exits so we walked slightly further up and then along the fire break. Lots of forest management going on so paths differ a little from maps. Nice view NE from the top and not too boggy.

The flies! The flies! The flies! Parked at forest entrance at NH 899445. Path junction on map at NH 902432 - left-hand path now totally overgrown. Suggest continue on existing path to next fire break at NH 901427 Turn east (left) and trig is at end of fire break. In case I didn’t mention it: the flies!

Bit of a slog up the boggy heather to get to this one and the flies buzzing around me were just getting worse and worse. A few fallen trees to walk around further up the path but hardly worth mentioning. The fenceline was soon in view and from there it was just a matter of seeing whether the trig is to the left or the right of the path once you emerge onto the more open top. Great views from here but a shame I wasn't able to enjoy it more as the flies just became unbearable.

Log #15. I parked at the entrance to the track at NH91089 40753 and headed up the path. It was a nice walk, and I looped round to approach the trig from the north. Despite being marked on the map, the path is pretty much non-existent, and it requires some hopping over fallen trees. I was swarmed with flies, but the view east from the trig made up for it. After snapping some pictures, I headed south, following the fence until I joined back up with the track. There also looked to be a fire-break directly to the west of the trig, which might have made for an easier approach. [ExP-15/MiP-0/BM-0]

Got to the parking and was surprised to see a 4wd with a trailer parked up. Where they cachers. The dugs where going nuts in their car. Set off up the tracks and then realised the light was fading faster than I thought. Out with the torch at the wood track as I climbed over the fallen trees. Got to top in the dark. Views must be amazing in daylight. Took a bit to spot. Put head torch on to free up hands and spotted it straight away. Halfway down track I realised batteries must be going in the super duper torch. Changed them and the place lit up like a spotlight. Only took 50 mins car to car. Now will I make it in time to get the girls at the train station? Will I be able to get a kebab and petrol before that? Tune in next week for the continuing exploits of....caching trig bagging numpty!!!!

I parked at the same location as Clochandighter and then followed his footsteps to the pillar. Rough going with fallen trees once any semblance of a track. The pillar itself is situated in quite a boggy are but is in excellent condition apart from a missing plug leving the pillar open to the elements. On emerging from the trees a surprisingly nice view point.

Area around trig is heather with some large pools. Pillar in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces WNW, compass reading 290°. Vented through SW sight hole. Outlook limited to 120° panorama centred on east, remainder lost to conifers.

The first part of the walk in fine drizzling rain was the easy bit. Then, for the last 300m, it turned into a muddy path overgrown with heather, which did not make easy walking. The pillar itself is in a very good condition, the plaque well preserved and easily readable. Had it not been for the fog closing in and the increasing rain the view would have been great.
