As other people started our walk from Slochd Ski Lodge, and followed track to Insharn and followed track to right. Track carries around base of mountain and instead of climbing towards Cairn , continued to South of hill and climbed up Quad Track to summit. Trig is a Vanessa not a Pillar

Walked up from Slochd mor lodge past Insharn farm. Came round the bottom of the hill until we saw remains of an old wall and then headed up directly towards the cairn marked on maps (spot height 442). From here it was straight up the hill behind the cairn to the trig. Quite steep and views weren’t great because it was cloudy. A really enjoyable trig!

Pretty much followed the same route as Aqueously90. Parked at the Slochd Mhor lodge, then walked past Insharn and around the bottom of Carn an Ailean. When we were more or less directly SW of the trig, we started cutting up the hill. It was a bit of a slog, but we made it there in the end. Trig is a Vanessa-type pillar, with a significant cairn a few metres to the NE. Great views of the Cairngorms and surrounding area. Took a more direct route back down towards the ruined cottage - 3.5 hours round trip on a glorious sunny day ;-)

Walked in from the Slochd and cut up to the right opposite the cairn. Very windy on top. Passed a few D of E groups on the track.

Log #63. One of my local trigs, not too far from home and easily visible from Dalnahaitnach. Parked at the Slochd Mhor lodge, then walked past Insharn and around the bottom of Carn an Ailean. When I was more or less directly SW of the trig, I started cutting up the hill. It was a bit of a slog, but made it there in the end. Trig is a Vanessa-type pillar, with a significant cairn a few metres to the NE. Great views of the Cairngorms, would have been a cracking sunset too if it wasn't as cloudy. More or less beelined east to take in the smaller cairn en route back to Insharn. [ExP-61/MiP-0/BM-2]

Great scenery, great weather. Walked from Carrbridge station along national cycle route 7--wish I had taken my bike. As I came down off the hill, back to the track, I met a couple of walkers--the only folk I saw all day. We got talking , told them I had just been to Carn An Ailean and my name was Aileen. The woman was also called Aileen--how coincidental is that!

Walked up from the cycle hire and lodge. Easy walk following path until i headed up the gradual ascent and realized the smaller hill descended back down. (would have been better going around) nevertheless tackled and managed to get most of the way up and then got stuck in up to almost 4ft of snow! Found my way around and got there in the end.... Trig cylinder type, in good condition no cracks etc... close to a rather large cairn.

A surprise (to me) Vanessa, vgc, no cap or plug. Largeish cairn nearby. Fine view across Speyside which was wreathed in mist all day. Quite a distinctive whaleback summit. 16mi circuit from Clune including S7236 and a bunch of Graham Tops etc.

Trig pillar in excellent condition in an unspoilt location. Cylindrical in shape, this pillar retains an OS boss in its spider. Flush bracket faces northwest. A nice easy 2 mile stroll from Slochd. Visited with ADP (brother) and photographed 22nd July 2001, GRP.
