It's been a while and to be honest I can't really remember how I managed to find it, no tyre so probably paced out 12.5m from the tree and prodded about. After spending some time bashing the vegetation down!

Was Flummoxed on this one as the tyre had gone but was lucky and soon found it after pacing out uphill from the tree below large brass bolt.

Paced out 12.5m from the tree, old car wheel spotted in high bracken - it's doing an excellent job of marking out and protecting the trig. Removed the wheel; checked the bolt and blew off the dust; replaced the wheel.

1" bolt in block (loosely described as a rivet in OS Passives list). S verge, 12.5 m uphill from ash tree (the sapling shown on os sketch), 2 m back from road edge. The car wheel was covered by dead bracken but easily found, with the block underneath.

even after reading those below I was still expecting the usual problems I always seem to have with these but it was only a couple of minutes before I found it, almost a disappointment not to have to spend the afternoon digging up the roadside verge.

As Glaslyn stated, it's easy to find at this time of year. In fact I was surprised to find it so near the road as the picture on the OS website make it appear buried near the hedge.

If travelling west, it's on your left just before the summit of the lane. There is a layby about 200 yards further down the lane for parking. Good condition - easy to spot as the bracken hasn't grown over it! Good views eastwards over Dudley, even on a grey day like today!
