A bit of a tussocky struggle up through the fallen trees but worth it for the views.

From the RSPB car park. Decent tracks almost all the way to the summit where a short section of tussocks and heather needs to be negotiated. OK view with the Isle Of Man visible to the S.

From the RSPB car park at Cordorcan Bridge (NX 3812 7084). Good track through the reserve, then morphs into a logging road. Stayed with it until due E of the trig, then found old and overgrown harvester track leading up to near the wall (NX 3947 7356), rough ground from there. Pillar built without a FB; original centre cap retained, raised lettering. Good views, but nothing earth-shattering.

From RSPB car park. Would have been straight forward following mapped paths, but recent storm had brought down a lot of trees which had blocked path and therefore a somewhat awkward deviation to the route had to be devised.

The second pillar visited on the day with coinea. As she reports, many recently fallen trees blocked the track at NX39607257 requiring a diversion essentially following ruined walls around the east side of the blockage but this was not easy either. Having regained the track this was followed to NX39717257 where a rather ill-defined old track zig-zags up the hill and peters out below the summit.

Beginning from car park to SW, delightful start to walk on grassy track thru' natural woodland. Just after Cordorcan, logging road swings in from west @ NX 394723 (not on map), so must be alternative (driveable?)access to forest. Leave forest track @ NX 397728 - forest been cleared for some time. Mostly easiest on NE side wall, especially by stream crossing and large intricate sheepfold. Tussocky summit

HISTORY: Pillar completed 27th October 1954 costing £40.5s.0d. Possibly intended as a secondary triangulation station, marker NX56/11 was computed as tertiary triangulation station within the Kirkcudbright secondary block during 1958. Levelled for height value at pillar top also in 1958. Last maintained by the OS in June 1985. SITE VISIT: Used free car park for nature reserve at NX380708. Follow mapped forest track NE to NX397734. Firebreak NW & W to open hill obstructed by windthrow so easier to tree bast c100m south. Open heathery top. Pillar in good condition, built without flush bracket. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large narrow letters. Open sight hole faces 123°SE. 360° panorama from top with long views SW. {Note: Ignore any private signs at Cordorcan in an apparent territorial attempt on a short section of track. No waymarked unobstructed diversion is offered}.

vgc, metal cap, wide raised letters. Built without FB. Hill tucked away, but once reached, is nice enough: heather, rock & scattered conifers. Overshadowed by bigger hills but doubtless fine view coastwards on a less grey day.
