Very mossy and rather beautiful. And famous name.. As expected from notes Carol Engels choice was a good one, but when Trig Pillar Liberator Man comes equipped with good loppers a way can and was forged through the gorse from the northern field side, for future visitors. It's just after the extra bit of sticking out fenced copse. Clear path now.

Parking tricky - was advised against the top of the track to the NE due to a "house" being down there - its totally derelict! So on local advice, verge parked almost opposite Garden Cottage NH 7781 4809 - luckily no-one in. Returned to access track and walked past "house" and climbed deer fence into wood - access better this side (cows in fields on north side). Easy approach to trig from south - bushes cut back.

Took the same route as most others past old house and around deer fence. Lots of fallen trees have taken fences down with them so there are a few wires or pieces of barbed wire sticking up. A quick trig but minimal views.

Culloden: the very name touches something in the Scottish psyche. Parked at entrance to track which leads to the derelict cottage. Quite wet underfoot. Beyond the cottage I encountered a deer fence but was able to sidestep it easily. Picking up the track again I got over some fallen trees and found the trig in the gorse which was easily penetrable. Quite a few roe deer in the woods.

Got parked up at the entrance to the track to the old cottage just at the roadside and followed the arrow straight track straight to the trig. There is a couple of boggy bits but easily passible with walking boots and a few fallen trees to negotiate but nothing too bad. Was at the trig within about 10 minutes of leaving the car. Nice views from this one although the amount of gorse does hamper it slightly!

I parked at to the north-east at the track/road junction. Then followed a good track to the derelict cottage (which has a Cut Mark). After that it was a bit of a fight through the trees and gorse to eventually arrive at the pillar. The pillar itself is in good condition and still retains an original plug. Not much of a view but an interesting place nonetheless.

GPS signal weak. Pillar VGC. Spider retains OS plug with deep indented font. FB faces NW. Only back sighting hole open. Some pruning was done for the photographs. As of today there is a clearway through the gorse to the grazing field, but this will infill again. No view apart from the new temporary outlook to the NW horizon. Was running out of time for 1831 train home from Inverness. Fighting through the woods from the NE end was taking too long so doubled back and followed boundary by walking along the field edge. Unfortunately the boundary is a continuous wall of inpenetrable gorse, and there was no obvious quick way through in the time I had left - plus it was raining heavily. Will revisit at a later date and allow more time, GRP.
