A couple of inches of sandy dune turf were kicked aside to reveal the tiny rivet. Middle Hope headland is at the end of the beach to the north; to the west are extensive sand and mud flats, the Mouth of the Severn, Flat Holm, Steep Holm and Wales; to the south Worlebury Hill and Birnbeck Island and pier mark the other end of the bay.
