called range control on morning 01870 604449, put through to site security manager who was very friendly and said no problem as not busy today. Photography restrictions- can only take of trig when outward facing , not of base equipment, all very reasonable .

Called ahead once I got off the Barra-Eriskay ferry. 30 mins later was being escorted into the camp for a viewing by very friendly QinetiQ staff, who manage the site. They have periods of highly intense activity when the place is in lock-down. If you call then you'll likely get a response similar to Steven Bruce's. Pillar is in excellent contion on a high brick-faced plinth; an original centre cap is retained; LHS sight hole open. Photography was allowed as long as none of the buildings etc were captured. But outside the wire it's not so easy to monitor. Logger below refers to top of the hill having been levelled and the pillar moved, but the OS dBase gives a GR very close to the current location so that may not be correct.

Log #511. Easily visible through fence. Rang intercom, heard an outburst of swearing from inside. Started walking away, then was called back to be told in no uncertain terms that I wasn't welcome. Recommend phoning ahead, but your mileage may vary. [ExP-349/MiP-38/Rev-6/BM-39/IS-52/Other-27]

It's got to be a 10/10 for the effort put in to view this one. We made an appointment to visit it with QinetiQ and the security guard could not have been nicer. He wanted us to let everyone know that they are more than welcome to visit the trig, with prior permission. We went in the evening when they'd shut up shop for the day. It is on a lovely elevated plinth!

vgc metal cap small raised letters. visited by prior arrangement, contact details as previous log. 3rd visit, 1st time inside. Sunday generally a good day as only security guard on site. During the week, if radar is in operation access to trig isn't permitted on safety grounds. I was told the trig used to be outside the fence: fence was moved out when concrete base slab extended. Unlucky for us!

Approached hill top via the Lady of th Isle. Trig pillar visible mounted on red brick plinth of inside MOD complex. Requested permission to visit but I guess we were there on a bad day with lots of vehicles present and a security man disgruntled by our appearance. Next day saw lots of heavy MOD equipment arriving by Calmac.

Drove up to entrance of MOD facility ... Pillar visible through fence ... Plenty of no photographs signs ... Did not take one in a rare moment of compliance (or was it because I forgot my camera!!)

the pillar can be seen from outside the security fence of this MOD facility, lots of no photo signs and OSAct, the pillar is on a brick plinth and painted white, good to see that tax payers money well spent.

High security MOD compound looked after by Qinetiq. Passed by in a.m. and asked to return p.m. when given escorted access. Top of hill levelled and pillar moved and now on a brick base. Spider present.

vgc, white, on fancy brick plinth 10m inside MoD compound. FB visible from outside, obliquely, reasonable telescope view on 45x magnification although last digit partially obscured due to angle, and didn't have the tripod with me for a photo. Buildings seemed occupied with lights at window, but early a.m. apparently no-one looking or interested. Unable to see whether top cap present. Years later went to gate on spec, was turned down. May book a revisit sometime.

Space City! Inside the security fence of the missile tracking base on Ruabhal. Mind they do keep them painted nice and white. Base manned, so I thought it wise not to take a picture. I expect you could blag your way in.
