Parked at the X roads and walked mile & quarter along tracks to the TP. The already excellent views will be further improved if as appears to be happening the shelter break obscuring the view of Rubers Law is felled. Revisit in a year or so…

Parked at NT493177. Followed the Borders Abbey Way into the adjacent field and then up the eastern side of the plantation as the going underfoot was easier than rough pasture in the trig field. At the top of the hill there is a gate into the trig field.

Accessed via the minor road to the south-east. Safe verge parking just to the south of the hamlet by a wooden fence. Up the east side of the plantation, then down the west side. Fabulous views on a sunny afternoon, although the previously mentioned views to Rubers Law, Carter Bar & Eildon Mid Hill have been lost from the actual pillar due to tree growth. Plenty of other hills to look at in the distance from here though & Rubers Law in particular looks magnificent a few yards from the pillar.

Permission given to park car next to cowshed. To avoid cattle I accessed via a gate and made my way to pillar via the Cross Borders Drove Road.Another gate at corner of plantation below the pillar nt483185. Spider top is intact. West side of pillar has less white paint than other sides. Spotted two deer near Hayside.

Pretty straightforward walk from house for one of the 7 Trigs round Hawick. Straight up hill out of the town to go straight on at crossroads NT494175 where there is ample room for roadside parking. Took the easier climb by the Cross Border Drove Road on west side of plantation and round to trig.

Parked at end of road near Tandlaw Farm. Followed signed path initially but when it veered off to right, I just kept straight on up the side of the wood. There is a useful stile at the top end of the wood to cross the electric fence.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS reading. SITE VISIT: Open grazing top just off the Borders Abbeys Way. Trig acts as a waymarker on the Hawick Circular Riding Route. Spendid part of the country with no access problems. Pillar in good order except for 30% loss of top surface, (<1cm depth) damage probably due to frost. Spider retains original OS centre plug with deep stamped lettering. Flush bracket faces SW. All four sighting holes are open through which the upper centre mark (pillar bolt) can be viewed. Views to Huntly Covert, Three Brethren, Greenhill, White Law, Eildon Mid Hill, Peniel Heugh, Minto Hill, Cheviot, Rubers Law and Carter Bar.
