From Logierait carpark via the 420m summit to the south. Easy from the mine road, but the fence under tension from fallen trees between the summit and trig was very unnerving. There was some windthrow on the dogleg track below the road but dodgeable. It is possible to ascend to the road through a newly felled area. Use of this track is advised due to the quality of the views. See Jackrussles map extract

Parked at the parking clearly shown on the map NN 97070 52622. Then followed various forest tracks until NN 95579 54599. Wind fall blocks the track here, so I headed up the hillside (very steep but doable) to NN 95273 54377 where I was able to pick up the new mine road and take this to almost within sniffing distance of the trigpoint (NN 94412 54692). Sadly the trig is on the other side of the wall at NN 94339 54884 but it was easy enough to get over. Returned back to new mine track and took this all the way back to the car.

From forest parking area to SE (NN 9706 5267). Mixture of tracks and, briefly, new forest road to NN 9590 5355 whence followed wall up to Logierait Wood and continued with wall to here. Pillar sits ~20m due N of the hill (of the same name) summit in light conifer woodland. Original centre cap retained, deeply indented lettering; RHD side sight hole open. No views.

Stuck in a tree plantation so offers no view. Walked from Pitlochry on the Rob Roy Way and turned off on the new forestry track.

From the Logierait forest car park to the SE. Up to the high ridge where the new Duntanlich barite mine road is met. Although I diverted to bag a tump, it is possible to follow the road to 250m of the trig, then through windblown trees and over the wall/fence to arrive at the trig.

Followed red route path from Logierait car park then took upper fork ahead at turning point. Should probably have gone further along here. Horrible scramble through thick pine forest, steep slopes and 6ft high ferns! Deer fence had to be negotiated with a dog. On the return we found a hole that looked like it had been cut which was easier but overshot fork paths and had to scramble up over cleared forest field to get to them again. Next we had to turn back on red route - closed for forest clearing at present about 2/3 of the way round. Views from path we could access were superb.

As Clochandlighter (excellent directions) but parked at NN 965544. Found several difficult fence crossings on this route (useful for the TuMP at spot height 420 - Logierait Wood) so took easier route back. From trig, E dropping steeply down just before reaching mapped track at NN 949549. Track begins boggy and overgrown but is there. Improves NN 952547 - took right fork to rejoin good outward track at NN 956540 but suggest lower track (straight on rather than right fork) OK and quicker

Revisit. HISTORY: Pillar constructed around 1957 exact details not on record. Computed as secondary triangulation station NN96/20 within the Pitlochry block during 1959. Levelled for height to Class 2 standards also in 1959. Last maintained by the OS in 1976. SITE VISIT: Approached from southeast. Small forest car park 50m off public road at NN970526. Best route is to follow tracks NW taking a sharp left turn at NN963537 onto steep track which climbs WSW then NNW through Logierait Wood. This track fades away at NN952543 and NW from there a feintly worn path follows the line of the boundary wall to the summit via one wall/fence climb at NN944549. Wooded summit. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces north, compass measurement 9°. Vented through west sight hole. No view due to surrounding woods.

Parked at 970526 and took Top o'th Hill walk to turning point at 952547.Continued for 600m to take rising left fork which ends shortly in trees. Take heathery bank on left and bear left to locate rough level forest ride heading SW to eventually reach wall running NW. Follow wall for 500m,reaching crosswall at end of clearing. Cross this and ascend final slopes to find trig just N of wall. Take care on return, easy to miss end of forest ride, a few markers may help! Return to car by completing Top o'th Hill walk.

Fine walk up on trackways and then through long grass, heather and bogs to reach pillar which remains in good condition with its cap in place and one sight hole open (the west one I think: no compass.) Lichen covers the lower few inches of the pillar. One of those OS warning notices re: potential damage dated July 1999 on FB side. Lots of deer strutting their stuff up here.
