(3711) Picking up where I left off last month. Parked at Granwood Road and tackled this one from the start of the PRoW on Occupation Road. A steady steep-ish at times 20 minute walk from there to the pillar, which wasn't really visible until the last moment. Stopped by the flag to check out the views first. Pillar in overall good condition, but some damage around the top is noticeable. All metalwork retained, surprisingly. Centre cap with indented lettering. Pillar history: Built on the 20th of October 1947, at a cost of £5 2s 0d. Last maintained by the OS in April of 1981.

Parked at the top of "Southgate", a road in the housing estate, and followed the FP directly up to the beacon. The path was very steep and would be virtually impossible in wet conditions. Last bit was a clamber over the rocks by the flagpole and then just over to the pillar. Fine views over the Tees estuary and the Cleveland Hills. Came down the same way which was treacherous enough. The amount of litter and the wiremesh protective canopy on the pedestrian bridge remind you that "Civilisation" is not far away.
