Lovely little walk up on a sunny morning. Gorse in flower made it a very picturesque scene! Part of the “7 Trigs of Hawick” that we had undertaken over Easter 24. Better than working.

As most reports walked up from the Industrial Estate where I was working. Scorching day with great views south and East.

Plenty of roadside parking at end of road in the Galalaw Business Park (NT 5071 1647). Track signed as 'viewpoint' leads up, no need to waste time on the muddy track that runs parallel to the road! Pillar has a reasonale coat of white paint, top is a little careworn with some chipping but nothing extensive. Centre cap missing, no plug; all sight holes open. Extensive views over Hawick. No sign of the Old Trig.

Parked at industrial estate. Sign post indicates route up to view point and the pillar. Very easy access and parking. A dog walking area. The pillar is well maintained perfectly white. Huddled against the yellow gorse it commands a lovely picnic spot. Spider plug is missing.

Closest trig to home although extended the walk by heading up the A7 and then in by industrial park as most have done. Good viewpoint over the town and beyond and descended by paths generally SW.

I suppose it would be boring if all trig visits were this simple, but nice for a change. Good parking at Galalaw business park, a signed path and great views at the top.

Followed the track up the hill, not realising we should've taken the waymarked path to the viewpoint, but managed to navigate our way to the trig easily - ended up on the wrong side of the fence up at the trig but managed to squeeze through. A bit too dreich to fully appreciate the views but we imagine they would be pretty impressive on a nice day.

Another relatively freshly painted pillar. The path from the Galalaw industrial estate is now clearly marked. There is even a picnic table next to the pillar.

With my newly re named son Trig Pillocksson!!! After avoiding it initially for a rainstorm shopping visit to Lidl instead. Sunshine returned after shopping. New business Centre up west from new roundabout. Go and park in the wind and take angled track up north.50 metres up there are steps off west up on to ridge top through the short wooded area.

Remarkably good views from up here - Hawick in the foreground and numerous summits visible in most directions. The quick way to the top - at the end of the service road take the track to the right that curves up the hill. Border Peat's path isnt particularly visible so if you miss it carry on up the track till you hit the fenceline. Turn left uphill along the wall through the trees keeping the fence on your right. When you come out of the trees just follow the fence stright ahead keeping it on your right and the trig is just a couple of hundred yards away. No gorse to contend with this way! The other path is easy to follow down the hill, but mind where you put your feet - the amount of dog fouling on the lower parts isnt pleasant.

Walked up from housing estate steep climb then fight through GORSE BUSHES.Easy route from roundabout on A7 pass workshops at end of road take track to right after about 50yds take path on left which goes up to trig (less than 10mins)You learn by your mistakes

Accessed from main housing estate road to thesouth. However not easy to get up the gorse covered hillside, eventually found narrow path of stones at western end which had once been a drystone wall now flattened. pillar is just east of reservoir. Somewhat surrounded by bushes there are nevertheless good views over Hawick. Some white paint remains but plug is missing, hole unfilled.

Second visit. For photographs and GPS reading. SITE VISIT: The challenge with this one is finding a route through the dense gorse on the eastern slopes. Pillar is in good order but the plaster facing on the top surface is long gone. The spider centre had been capped with a brown plaster of Paris plug but this now has a hole poked in it. Flush bracket faces northeast. All four sighting holes open. Views overlooking Hawick and outwards to Drinkstone Hill, Minto Hill, Peniel Heugh, Cheviot, Rubers Law, Carter Bar, Orchardhill, and Hardies Hill.

Evening bash up a steep, snowy, bramble and gorse infested slope to an excelent view over Hawick. The gorse had been recently burnt off near the pillar.

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed 5th July 1953 costing £13.7s.0d. Flush bracket S7528 was levelled for height in 1956. This marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT72/T36 in the Jedburgh secondary block in 1957 and was last maintained by the OS in October 1986.
