Pondered approach and finally chose FP from SE of pillar as there was a little pull-in on B-road in valley, 100yds from FP gate. Climbed steeply following line of FP on OS 25k map, with pillar prominent on sky line. At line of old Scots pines, turned sharp left off FP and walked direct to pillar, one field gate to negotiate. Pillar overlooks Machynlleth with back drop of Tarrens, Cadair a little further away and even the Arans poking up in the far distance.

Parked in the little space and up the bridle way then cut across tough little 2 k walk super views in the evening light.Trig in vgc only cap of the day with raised lettering.

A bracken slog through almost inaccessible access land. Normal for mid wales. Pillar in good condition with metal plug. 360 deg. views

Take it easy (!) and use the BW to SE - not much of a path but gentler approach for tired legs (not mine!). Parked by entrance to shed at SN 780 989 - house currently unoccupied but looks to be being renovated.

No change since Lathamas visit. Took a short sharp climb from the mountain road at its closest point. Not a good idea after two outlying Cader summits and Two remote trigs about to soak my calves to recover :-)

This one's all intact with the original plug. All the sightholes are clear. Faint traces of white paint on NE and SE faces. The concrete base projects above grass level by about 6" to the NE and SE and in the NE there is some erosion around it. Looks generally very solid! Blowing like the clappers at present but visibility retricted by one of those 'frequent showers' we were [correctly!] promised. On a fine day this would be a great spot.
