A spectacular quarry is no substitute for a moorland hill trig! Not sure why pillars that are lost to quarrying can't be saved and either relocated or repurposed - the huge artwork/viewpoint "The Coldstones Cut" would have been even more stunning with a trig pillar centre stage, I reckon... As others have said, the pillar is long gone. Lovely site to visit, though.

Big hole in the ground! (Coldstones Quarry). Footpaths shown on current OS 1:25000 have been diverted but access to quarry edge is feasible.

Greenhow Hill and Greenhow Moor [Note added 25 May 2004] This is puzzling! The map is OS 1:25000 Sheet SE 06/16 (Grassington & Pateley Bridge) dated 1983. It doesn't show a trig symbol for Greenhow Moor but it _does_ show one at Greenhow Hill top. I haven't checked the latter but would guess that in any case, its another quarry victim.
