I have been notified by a local councillor that the Trig Pillar was "rescued" from the rubble and transported to a safe storage location in August 2018. He supplied two photographs or the pillar strapped to a trailer.

I parked at the end of Sedgefield Way and followed the Bridleway around the Building Supplies company and then a short way along between the Prison and the wasteland The area where the pillar was situated is blocked off by a sturdy metal fence with spikey bits on top. Had a look through the railings to the place where the TP was, and contented myself that I wasn't behind the imposing prison wall.

Parked at the end of Cheltenham road by Toolstation. You can wak around the side of the security gate as the fence only joins the gate on one side! The waste ground has been used for fly tipping but there is a path from the gate to the trig location almost. Used my gps to locate the site, walked round and round the trees and stomped down a lot of the weeds and brambles but still could not locate the trig. A lot more rubble has been dumped around that area. Reading more of the comments from the last 10 years, some have slightly different cords so I will try these tomorrow. Tried looking a second time, no luck. Looked around all the bushes / trees and brambles. Compared photo from Borderer with what's there now. The trig has either been removed or is under a pile of rubble. I will email Teesside museum to ask if they salvaged it.

Wow I made a real mess of this one. Parked up nice and early , there is now an 8ft high locked gate to prevent access but there is just enough space to wriggle under it. The security cabin is gone. However in the poor ealy mornung light I found the right area with aid of gps but couldn't find trig. Then lost my bearings and took 45 mins to find my way back . Not fun

Having passed this way on the nearby A19 a few times I thought the I'd pay a visit. Parked in the car park next to the security cabin and although it appears to be in use (radio and TV present) no one at home so carried on to the pillar. I have seen worse locations (but not many). A one in four chance of the pillar falling on it's face or was it deliberate after reading a previous log on 12/07/12 about potential preservation?

Entrance to waste land by JT Doves was unlocked but no time to investigate. Early early morning start needed. This is a slightly different entrance to the one Sheepsocks photographed. Relogged 07:03am 31/10/11. You have to scramble under this gate now. Pillar toppled and moved as suspected. Logged grid ref is current position of pillar flush bracket down in a small ditch. If it were not for the view of the ICI towers the score would have been much lower.

If you want to see this pillar in situ, then you will need to visit pretty promptly as the land it sits on is about to be developed. From the look of the nearby JCBs, the trig could be uprooted in the next few days! For now, the trig is surrounded by a prison, an industrial estate, the busy and noisy A19, and ICI pollution from the Billingham works...maybe trig heaven is looking like a better location after all! For what it is worth, the plug is still there with indented lettering.
