Taking your life into your own hands with this one. Or the golfers more like. Walked right along the coastline from the golf club house. Then came back in along the wall line. Perfect views of Edinburgh and the Forth road bridges to Fife and back to Berwick law.

Approached from east following the golf course road at first out of Aberlady, then the coast round till you see two small buildings. Go to the one on the left and you will see a track going back east, parallel to the way you came, alongside one of the fairways. It goes up a small rise to a walled enclosure. Trig is on the other side of the further wall in the corner. If you are lucky you will see seals and find fossils. Aberlady Nature Reserve is worth visit. Here, there are two WW2 midget submarines exposed at very low tide.

Good condition pillar. FB faces south-east-ish with south-west-ish sighthole open only. Cap present with sunken lettering. Nice views over the Firth. Asked permission at clubhouse, no problems.

Asked at the club house if we could walk to the trig, no problem, but there were lots of golfists about. Followed the line of the wall from the club house to the trig. Did contemplate coming early in the morning to bag this one.

Drove to the clubhouse at Kilspindie parking at the overflow car park that overlooks Aberlady Port. Permission given to walk the course to reach this trig. Huddled in a corner of two walls this trig is well protected. Spider intact. Lacks a lick of white paint.

Parked in GC car park, asked at pro shop, access readily given. Half-mile walk along the groundkeeper's track between fairways. Pillar sits in the angle of a stone wall overlooking the club's dump site. Metal top cap retained, lightly indented lettering; RHD side sight hole open. 360deg views.

Thought that a Monday morning would be a quiet time to visit---so wrong! Big car park but it was full. However, asked in Pro shop and was given full permission and directions to trig.

Arrived quiet late in the day so not many golfers about,walked around edge of course on the coast untill in line with Trig and then walked across to it.

Drove up to Kilspindie clubhouse and parked in club carpark. Asked a young lady at the clubhouse if it was ok to walk to the trig. No problem was the reply, just follow the wall and watch out for golfballs. Found trig snug at a corner of the wall. Nettles higher than the FB. Lovely sunny evening. Access seems ok here as saw a chap walking a couple of dogs on the course whilst I was walking back.

vgc, metal cap, shallow letters. SE quadrant of wall, middle of golf course. Visited at dusk. Mossmorran Chemical Works (Pilkham Hills) was flaring impressively across the Firth.

Pleasant wander round perimeter of course - nice stretch of coast. Presumably it's in middle of course by one of several fragments of old wall. Busy with golfers: apparently outward holes hence eve visit probably best.

Parked in Aberlady and walked round the outside of the golf course until level with trig point and no golfers about, then cut across. Few looks but no shouting to get off.

In from the south (hotel) on a starry night. Around some sort of scheme for Rich People and across the course. Hit the pillar without difficulty. View across to Fife and the lights on the Binn mast. Big headlights from the ghetto helped me find my way back. Good condition,home to a slug.

Revisit. SITE VISIT: As the name suggests, this pillar is situated by a golf course. It is near the East Lothian coastal village of Aberlady. The pillar is in good condition and still retains its OS spider cap. The flush bracket faces south. This triangulation station has the honour of being the lowest altitude trig on OS Landranger 66 (Edinburgh). Photographed, 23/10/1996, GRP.

First visit. To record FB number. The pillar was completed in August 1943 costing £4.2s.6d. Later in 1943 this marker was computed for triangulation as tertiary station NT48/T34 in the Edinburgh secondary block. The flush bracket was levelled for height in 1960. This trig point was last maintained by the OS on 17th October 2000.
