Drove up to Kirkness Farm & spoke to woman in nearby cottage. Five minutes to bag this trig.

Pulled in off B road, met farmer on the track at Bankhead, he advised to drive up to Kirkness farm and moved his tractor out of the way for me. Parked there, hopped a gate. Pillar sits in a sheep pasture with long grass. Original centre cap retained, indented lettering; LHD side sight hole open. No views worth mentioning.

Drove to end of farm road and asked permission at house. Turned out the people I was talking to were tourists and the building they were staying in was their holiday home. I chose then to negotiate the gate and sprint across a recently felled field. Approximately 25m to bag this trig point.

Drove all the way to the nearby farm with the intention of asking for permission. No one in closest farm and the one next to the trig is uninhabited. So Mr TJR waited whilst Mrs TJR snuck around the back of the building and squeezed through the the gap between the gate and the post to bag the trig in a recently harvestered crop.

Good condition pillar in crop field. Accessed via existing train tracks. FB faces south-ish with west-ish sighthole open only. Cap present with sunken lettering. OK views.

vgc, metal cap, shallow letters, wrong type for age, presumably relocated from one of the Primaries, e.g. S4737 Ward Hill on Hoy or S4734 Fitty Hill on Westray (see also 10643 Knitchin on Rousay). In pasture near farm buildings.
