Straight forward walk up from Monkswood Road in Gattonside. Field was just grass so easy to cut across to trig. Hazy today but still decent enough scenery and a deer hopping about the next field provided five minutes of viewing.

Parked next to telephone box in Gattonside. Walked uphill through Fauhope and Goatbrae Plantations. Pillar is situated on west side of a stone wall in an open pasture field. It still retains a white coat of paint. The spider is intact. Extra mark for the fabulous views especially of Melrose, The River Tweed, Eildon Hills and the hillfort on Black Hill. Also some fabulous houses en route.

Parked at NT5434535352. They are now building a new estate next to the road here so parking / 'abandonment' is a lot easier. The track up towards the trig from here is part of the Melrose path network so it is in reasonable condition. Gate at NT5534235705 for access to trig field.

Parked in Melrose and took the chain bridge over the Tweed to Gattonside. Thereafter followed the signposted path diagonally up the hillside until it flattened off. Just through the belt of trees was a walkers gate on the right giving access to the field. As this was snow covered stubble, the trig was easily reached. Splendid views all round although bitingly cold. With CJ.

A pleasant wander up from Gattonside. First section of path was rather muddy as a result of recent heavy rain but fine after it levelled off out of the trees. Easy access to the trig following tractor tracks through crop field. Good views to Eildons and Black Hill.
