Parked at NT5434535352. They are now building a new estate next to the road here so parking / 'abandonment' is a lot easier. The track up towards the trig from here is part of the Melrose path network so it is in reasonable condition. Gate at NT5534235705 for access to trig field.

From Gattonside Mains farm. Lovely coconut scented walk through between gorse hedges. Field tilled and prepared for planting. No growth showing but walked round field edges just in case.

Parked in Melrose and took the chain bridge over the Tweed to Gattonside. Thereafter followed the signposted path diagonally up the hillside until it flattened off. Just through the belt of trees was a walkers gate on the right giving access to the field. As this was snow covered stubble, the trig was easily reached. Splendid views all round although bitingly cold. With CJ.

A pleasant wander up from Gattonside. First section of path was rather muddy as a result of recent heavy rain but fine after it levelled off out of the trees. Easy access to the trig following tractor tracks through crop field. Good views to Eildons and Black Hill.

An easy wander along the track from the west, handy gate in NW corner of field. Parking a bit iffy but room for a couple of cars on the triangle at the west end of the track. Extensive views from the pillar on a crisp November afternoon - the hills far to the south east were dusted with snow.

To Melrose to walk St Cuthbert's Way, so this by way of a leg stretch after a surprisingly uneventful train journey from King's Cross (after yesterday's flood chaos) and a long but scenic bus ride from Berwick. Great views of Black Hill and the Eildons, also down to the Waterloo Monument. E s/hole open, metal cap deep letters, in exc condition.
