2nd time I've visited the pillar on Lodge Hill. This time as a walk-by on a circular walk from Shifnal to Ryton and back along the line of the valley of the R.Worfe. Views to Shifnal and northwards were very good. Fields of green (cereals)and yellow (oil-seed rape) where planted up and red (Triassic bed rock to soils) where growth hadn't really started, made for a delightful vista. Outside the wood looking south & west the Clee Hills and Abberley Hills could be discerned. A superb walk too, along the Worfe valley.

What a fantastic view from the top of this little hill. I was surprised. The pillar is becoming swamped by a rhododendron. Shame that it is hidden away. Second pillar of the day. Cracking circular walk from Kemberton.

hiding away in a wee hill top enclosure and surviving a huge tree falling close by this little cherub hides part way in a bush. does mean he is sheltered from the worst of the weather though and as such is in vgc. I had parked down by the sewage works. the road becomes a track but i dared park my small car where the track forks just beyond the stw site. pretty much where the 3rd green dot is.. poor views today. weather.

Score is for walk, from Shifnal via Grindle Farm pillar on a crisp, white day, passing Evelith Mill (no King Charles!) and accompanying the delightful, babbling Wesley Brook, more than for the trig. I suppose I could have climbed the new looking barbed wire fence or climbed the chained and locked gate into the field of pregnant ewes separating me from the summit of Lodge Hill, but decided, for today at least, it was unreachable!

Parked in the narrow lane to the SW and followed the footpath over a footbridge, and up some steps. Go through a gate on the left and up to a small wood. Climb over what looks like a very new gate to access the pillar.I missed the gate on the left, followed the path and did a slight detour to avoid climbing over the barbed wire fence. Reasonabe views.

Approached via the footpath from Shifnal to the NE. There is a convenient gate to climb over into the field adjacent to the pillar, which is behind another fence in a small copse. All intact with original plug - deeply indented letters. Quite a lot of fading paint on all faces. Sightholes closed. I assume there would be a good view from here on a clear day but today was very murky with drizzle in the air.
