1st of 2 trigs on today's 11 mile walk. Starting at Lostock train station, I followed various footpaths heading west, until I reached Lostock Lane, then SW across Chorley Rd onto the path near ATS. Straightforward on the footpath that isnt marked on my Strava app. Pleasant visit, pillar in good condition and reasonable views. continued on the path through industrial estate towards Cow Lane.

Parked in the layby area by the FP sign. Farmer had locked the gates so had to hop over them. Up to pillar where fence has many gaps. Nice views of Rivington Pike, Winter Hill, and, the other direction in the distance, Snowdonia.

Parked off Wimberry hill Rd and then it was a small walk down a public footpath. The trig can be seen from Wimberry hill Rd.

You don't get this view from the A6 300 yards away. Southern horizon bounded by Billinge Hill, Fiddler's Ferry and the North Wales hills, The entire Cheshire sandstone ridge and the pennines as far as Congleton.

Plug missing. Easy access from the main road and down a short path. When you cross the style, don't follow the Footpath yellow arrow, straddle the very low wire fence on your left and follow the fence along to the trig.

A murky old day, from the edgelands of garage/scrap merchants via the laurel hedges and fences of the horse fraternity. An intriguing place with a hint of old colliery on the old outskirts to contrast with the land devour sheds.

Parked on Elland Close on the nearby Industrial estate , and passed "The Chuck Wagon" at the entrance to the footpath -which seems to be blocked off-walked along field edge to trig which sits just to the other side of the fence which is easily crossed by use of a small metal hurdle-The trig is in good condition with an open cap , four open sight holes and a north facing Flush Bracket -open viewpoint with the top of the Macron stadium visible to the north-Good Bacon butties available at the Chuck Wagon

rather dreary place,parked in the restaurant cp for the short stroll down the fp,the pillar is next to the fp but a quick hop over barbed wire is required for full access.

HISTORY: Pillar completed 9th March 1940 costing £3.14s.7d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD80/T65 during 1945. Levelled for height to Class 1 precision at tertiary standards in 1964. Last maintained by the OS in March 1973. SITE VISIT: Approached from east. Parked beside field gateway, west side of side road into industrial estate at SD645074. Followed mapped RoW along fenceline all the way. Pillar located in edge of grazing field to north, other side of boundary fence from RoW. Farmer was in sight and came over to see me, he's had problems with irresponsible dog owners but was friendly and was happy for my activites. Column in good condition. Spider centre open. Flush bracket faces north across field, compass measurement 357°. All sight holes open, innards partially blocked with debris. Full 360° open outlook. Part of a 24 trig stint around the northern outskirts of Manchester.

Nice easy one. As with other loggers parked at the ATS garage and then along the public track and footpath to the pillar. Field empty and surprisingly not muddy considering the standing water everywhere. Limited views to the north.

Went up the lane by ATS and parked at the fork in the road.Not recommended for cars as the lane is strewn with pot holes,I was in the works van so...!Trig in good nick,3 sight holes open,plug missing.Urban views.I left the fork in the road as a parking reference!!

Uninspiring trig, but in good nick apart from missing plug, and easy to find -although it can't be seen from the lane. Go down the lane alongside the field with crop in until you come to a fence and then follow the fence to the trig. The trig is in the field with the crop but as others have said, it's better to approach through the other field alongside the fence, then just jump over when you get to the trig.

Walked from Old Harpers. Not recommended as there are no footways on the minor roads. Footpath planted over so got very wet following the field edge

Easy access on public footpath. Trig is over fence. No need to go over other side of fence before you get to trig (as we did!) as field is overgrown and the fence can easily be got over at the side of the trig

Cap missing with only the West sight closed. In pretty good nick, North of a lambing field where the lil fellers were squeeking rather than bleating... a cute wee black lamb springing about too. Fair views over the landscape and towns - The Wanderers Reebok Stadium is due North.

Parked by the tyre/exhaust garage and then had to negotiate a frozen lane before setting off across the paddy field to the pillar. Conditions couldn't have been much worse. However, the pillar's in good shape apart from a missing plug. West sighthole open, others closed. Traces of paint. Again, there are possible some reasonable views from here but today it was snowing and foggy and I couldn't see anything.

Short walk from a tea caravan - great. View towards the Horwich football ground (Bolton Wanderers - the real Horwich football team legged it to Leigh). Good condition but the plug's gone.
