Used the approach from the S, but on reflection, the approach from the E might have been better. Quite wet with longish heather and a dip in the middle to cross. The views however are worth it. With Nozzer.

This was the day i found out that a seam on my right boot leeks. Rain overnight had left the moorland moist but not turned it back into a bottomless bog yet. Parking and route as previous baggers.

Similar approach to that eminent trigger who visited afore me! At this time of year the bracken is chest-high but I found a deer track that eased the journey. Upon gaining higher ground the vegetation becomes more heather-pasture though boggy in parts. Beeline to the pillar with a fence to climb. Deer and ponies kept close eye on me whilst many magpie moths were drying their wings in the early air. Silence! That deep flow country silence. The peat seems to suck the sound from the world other than the whisper of the wind. Pillar in excellent condition, with only a little exposure to the base. Fantastic panaromic views including Scarabens, Morven, Ben Griams, Ben Klibreck, Ben Loyal, Ben Hope..you get the idea! Tried a more direct descent to the road which was successful though a lot steeper.

Approached from south. Layby on south side of A836 at NC704572. Climbed the steep bank on the north side of road, higher up the bracken thins out and the going gets easier although there are boggy areas to negotiate, the route is almost beeline. Heather clad grazing top. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with deep indented letters. Flush bracket faces southwards, compass measurement 175°. Vented through back sight hole. The 360° panoramic view includes Ben Loyal and Ben Hope.
